About Us
Humanity Effect was founded in 2023 by Cameron Mofid, who launched the organization after visiting Nigeria during his mission to every country in the world. What began as a small effort to support one school has grown into a community-led movement that now serves over 750 children in Makoko, a floating community in Lagos, Nigeria.
Humanity Effect’s facilities include two schools, an orphanage, and a medical center. The schools are built on stilts above the water and staffed by more than 20 dedicated teachers who provide daily education, nourishment, and care to children who have historically had limited access to schooling.
With less than half of children in Makoko able to attend school, Humanity Effect is committed to expanding its reach until every child has access to learning and opportunity. The organization provides uniforms, shoes, books, meals, and salaries for all teaching staff — sourcing materials and labor from within Makoko whenever possible to strengthen the local economy.
Humanity Effect’s orphanage offers a safe home for children who once had nowhere to sleep, and its medical center provides essential healthcare to families in the community. As the organization continues to grow, its goal remains simple: ensure every child in Makoko has a safe place to learn, grow, and dream.
